SPARRING with safety equipment on is smart and good fun, but FIGHTING is never done with safety equipment.
KUMITE is a way that we can
spar WITHOUT safety
equipment.
KYU KATA
(pronounced "Q - KATA")
teaches us the
blocks, punches, and kicks
we will use in
KYU KUMITE.
There are 5 sparring/fighting
combinations in KYU KUMITE.
There are 5 parts to
KYU KATA.
When the word "KYU" is used
in KYU KATA or KYU KUMITE
it means
"under black belt level".
This is the "under black belt level"
FIGHTING Exercise.

The "Under Black Belt" Fighting Kata
Kyu Kata Short Form features the first 3 Attack and Defense Combinations used in theTraditional 2-Man SparringExercise called Kyu Kumite.
KYU KATA "Long Form" - "The "Under Black Belt" Fighting Kata
Kyu Kata Long Form features the 5 Attack and Defense combinations used in theTraditional 2-Man Sparring Exercise called Kyu Kumite.
Sensei Bill arranged these combinations into Kata Form for his own practice and later were integrated into the America's Youth Outreach Program and the Garden Grove Okikukai Junior Black Belt Program.
